Memorial by Bryan Washington is a contemporary fiction book that follows
a couple whose relationship seems to be waning: Benson, a Black American day care teacher, and Mike, a Japanese American chef living together in Texas.

Mike travels to Japan to visit his father as he is dying. but Mike’s mother comes to Texas and ends up being “unconventional” roommates with Benson. It’s supposed to be an interesting look at race, culture, and romantic relationships.
